Doo Wop Pendant

Doo Wop Pendant
Originally introduced in the 50's it was designed by Louis Poulsen for the Navy buildings for areas like their canteens and offices - and was named the Navy Pendant. It was widely used because of the unique lighting properties as it primarily provides a downward soft light by means of the white lacquered inner conical reflector while the outer reflector (the main shade) contributes to lighting upwards and downwards while spreading the soft diffused light. In the 80's the product was taken out of the Louis Poulsen catalogues but in recent years more and more of the old editions have been sold again through antique stores and auctions creating a new demand. Louis Poulsen responded to this by creating a new version very close to the original by producing the same hand spun shade with the fine rolled edge but in new colors which gives the pendant more optical volume. The brass version challenges the craftsmanship as it is spun from a solid brass plate that appears polished.
